I grew up surrounded by trees… way back in the country, right off of an old, dusty, back road. However, the trees that I watched grow as I grew have recently been cut down. A gas company replaced them with giant pipes and sadly the scenery has changed. They think that cutting the trees wasn't detrimental... They say they will grow back... Unfortunately, in their opinion natural gas is more important… the all-mighty dollar sign is more important... Trees and the environment have always been important to me. They have become even more important since I am experiencing the effects of deforestation in my own backyard. The environment has been compromised. Trees are an essential part of life; they give us the oxygen we need to breathe, to live. My interest in the environment in general has increasingly become important to me as I grew older; not only with trees but also animals. Today more than ever, humans are so dependent on the luxuries. Point blank: we are selfish. We feel that we are entitled to everything, as if its some kind of right we receive when we are born. It tends to be forgotten that we are not the only ones on the planet (hard to believe, right?). When we cut down trees in other parts of the world to accommodate our wants we don't realize the way that it affects animals who rely on them for food and shelter. I celebrate my birthday on June 11, 1996 and I was raised in the small town of Greensburg, Pennsylvania. Art is my passion and I have been drawing and painting for as long as I can remember. I am surrounded by great people in my life and am nearing the end of my high school career. In the fall of 2014, I will attend Seton Hill University. While there, I will continue to develop my art skills and study art therapy.
